THE JEROME CLASSIC WILL FEATURE WORLD CLASS THROWING EVENTS WITH INDIGENOUS FLAVOUR AT UBC ON MONDAY, JUNE 13

The 2022 Jerome Classic set for Tuesday June 14th will have a special feature this year with inclusion of a satellite throwing competition on Monday, June 13th at the Rashpal Dhillon track and field facility at the University of British Columbia.

The main Jerome Track Classic will be held on the next afternoon and evening at Swangard Stadium starting at 4pm with major event following at 6pm.

The throwing competition on Monday will feature  the hammer and discus events as the UBC site has special throwing cages for optimal safety for the athletes and spectators.  This is event is open to the public without charge and will be a great opportunity to see a world class competition up close. Events willl start at 5pm.

CAMRYN ROGERS

Camryn Rogers of Richmond who holds the Canadian record of 76.46m in this event will be at the Jerome Classic in spirit only, as she will be defending her NCAA title in Eugene days before.  Camryn was 5th in the Olympic Games in Tokyo last summer and the gold medalist at the 2018 World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.  She is aiming at the World Championships set for Eugene’s new Hayward Field in mid July and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Camryn would love to compete at the Jerome Classic as Janee’  Kassanavoid of the USA will compete on Monday, June 13th. Janee’s  throw of 78.00m is ranked 3rd in the world while Camryn best is ranked 4th.  

JANEE' KASSANAVOID

Janee’s  throw moved her to sixth on the world all-time list after winning the hammer with 78.00m at the USATF Throws Fest,  a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting  in Tucson recently. Janee’ may represent the highest world ranking for any indigenous North American in the sport of athletics. Janee’ is a member of the Comanche nation of the southern plains of the United States. She attended Kansas State University. She was 4th in the US Olympic Trials last summer and has he eyes set on the 2022 World Athletic Championships in Eugene this July and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

JANEE' KASSANAVOID

I lost my father, a full blooded Comanche, at a young age who is the sole reason for pursuing athletics and loving sports.  He taught me what is strength, pride and resiliency.”

SADE OLATOYE

Janee’ will be joined in the hammer throw by Sade Olatoye.  The Ohio State graduate  has a hammer best of 69.37m and  represented Nigeria at the 2019 World Championship in Doha, Qatar and won the shot put championship at the 2019 All-African Games in Rabat, Morocco.
