The Harry Jerome Track Classic is Canada's longest-running track and field event. In its 39-year history, world and Olympic champions, world record holders, Canadian stars and young hopefuls have thrilled spectators, achieved personal bests and, thanks to the vision and dedication of the Achilles International Track and Field Society, continued in their quest to become Faster, Higher and Stronger.
The Harry Jerome Track Classic is hosted by the Achilles International Track & Field Society, a non-profit society registered in British Columbia. Net proceeds from this event support track and field competition in BC.
This year’s event will be a part of Athletics Canada’s National Track and Field Tour, a series of ten high-performance track and field meets scheduled for the 2023 outdoor season. The Tour will look to build off the success of the 2021 Tokyo Qualifying Series, which helped provide important competitive opportunities to our Canadian Athletes during the pandemic. It will provide meaningful competition opportunities for athletes at home, to host events whereby Canadian athletes can earn valuable World Ranking points, and to help develop athletes for future National Team representation.
The meet will also be a Bronze level feature on the World Athletics Continental Tour. This means that select events will receive C level Placing Points towards athletes' world rankings.
The maximum size of fields for each event group (inclusive of pacemakers) is as follows:
Female 5000m: 16:30
Female 3000m Steeplechase: 10:40
Standards must have been obtained in 2022 or 2023
Other events will not have firm entry standards.
100m, 800m and 1500m (and possibly 400m) heats will keep getting added to accommodate all athletes 750 results score points and higher. Remaining lanes will be filled by any interested athletes.
The confirmation process has been developed with an aim to balance the following competing objectives:
Given the above, there will be three waves of confirmations for the top heats of track events, and the sole flight we will hold for field events
There will be three different event tiers at the meet this year:
* Points = WA Results Score points (not inclusive of placing points) from 2023 Seasonal Best performances in the competition or WA designated similar event.
**Canadian CAPP athletes will receive, at a minimum, receive meet hotel.
***In lieu of requiring travel support, local athletes (residing in the Lower Mainland) with 1100-1139 points will receive $200 CAD stipend and those with 1140+ points will receive a $500 CAD stipend.
Live Results will be posted on Athletic Live.
