STAFFORD SISTERS SHOW SPEED INDOOR AND OUTDOOR TO LEAD CANADIAN RANKINGS

The Stafford family must be proud this week of their daughters, Gabriella Stafford-Debues and Lucia Stafford. Lucia running indoors in Toronto one week after her 1500m best of 4:05.70, toured the 1000m in 2:37.73. This fine effort was followed the next day by older sister, Gabriella running in Phoenix, Arizona outdoors winning the 3000m in 8:38.51. This was the first race for Gabriella who has only recently moved her training base from Great Britain to Portland, Oregon's Bowerman Track Club. Clearly these sisters have their eyes focused on the Tokyo Olympic Games. Canada's best pole vaulters, Alysha Newman and Anika Newell competed yesterday in Lieven, France but neither exceeded their season openers of 4.65m and 4'70m respectively.

Charles Philibert-Thiboutot responded to Marco Arop mark in the mile by recording 3:40.21 in the 1500m in Dortmund, Germany. He may well record more marks before his return to Canada. Kiernan Lumb is scheduled to run in Boston this weekend. The UBC graduate ran his personal best of 7:35.50 for 3000m on the same track in February 2020. He ran 10,000m in 28:17.55 outdoors November just behind Lucas Bruchet.
