Liz Gleadle of Vancouver, BC returned to her alma mater for a high performance meet last night and she launched a World Championship rocket in the javelin. The Olympian threw the spear 62.30m improving from her season's best of 61.35m set in California recently. Her seasonal best was just 0.05m off the IAAF World Championship standard. This 2015 Pan American gold medalist holds the Canadian record of 64.83m set in Kawasaki, Japan in 2015.
During the 2016 Harry Jerome Classic in Vancouver, one of Gleadle's throws went out of bounds and narrowly missed a cameraman, piercing his shirt. The cameraman finished shooting the event and she apologized immediately after she said "I’m not going to throw a javelin at someone and not see if they’re OK. I don’t feel like that’s polite."
The women's javelin will be held at the 2017 Vancouver Sun Jerome Track Classic set for Percy Perry Stadium at the Coquitlam Town Center.
