VANCOUVER – One of the amusements for those who regularly watch Vancouver Whitecaps’ practices at the Dhillon Track and Field Oval at the University of B.C. is the eclectic group of runners who take to the track while the soccer squad trains.
Some days it’s muscular sprinters, on other days it’s tousle-haired kids. There are the middle-aged women jogging in pairs, and the spindly septuagenarian who puts everyone to shame with amazing stamina as he does lap after lap.
A week ago, however, a familiar face came bounding down the track: Canadian women’s javelin record holder Liz Gleadle.
