The Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic will be held at Swangard Stadium just over 3 weeks and the pressure as a qualifying event for Team Canada is mounting. Athletics Canada has announced that the top 2 athletes in each event on the National ranking list as of June 14 will represent Canada at the Pan American Games set for July 18 to 26 in Toronto. This makes the Jerome Track Classic now in it's 32nd year a critical qualifying event for Team Canada.
Marek Jedrzejek, athlete invitations chair for the organizing group, the Achilles Track and Field Society, has faced a multitude of requests from both coaches and athletes to offer the 1500m instead of the mile. This shift is important as the top 2 times in the 1500m on June 14 while be selected for the Pan Ams.
Dylan Armstrong will be honoured in the Opening Ceremonies of the Jerome Track Classic for his winning of the Bronze Medal in the Beijing Olympic Games by BC's Attorney General, Suzanne Anton and Minister of Community, Sport and Culture, Coralee Oakes. Dylan is recovering from surgery to his right elbow 41/2 months ago. His event, the men's shot put will not be contested this year at the Jerome Track Classic.
