RICHMOND—British Columbia’s premier high school indoor track and field event, the Province Harry Jerome Gran Forza V presented by TELUS, goes Saturday at the Richmond Oval, first event starting at 12 noon.
The event has drawn 44 teams and 230 athletes from throughout the Province, the lower mainland, Okanagan, Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island.
Teams will compete in the following unique format;
A team of five athletes compete in individual events plus a relay. Each team can enter one athlete per event and each team member can participate in only one individual event plus a relay.
The meet is broken down into four divisions—Senior girls and boys, Juvenile girls and boys. Bursaries totalling $10,000 will be awarded to the top schools in each division and an outstanding athlete will be chosen from each division as well.
Defending team champions: Senior girls Walnut Grove, Senior boys Lord Tweedsmuir, Juvenile girls Elgin Park and Juvenile boys Vancouver College.
“The meet has proven to be a great success,” said Doug Clement, chair of Achilles International Track Society, organizers of the meet. “We look forward to another big meet as record holders from all four Juvenile events have entered and are now competing at the Senior level. As well the meet also serves as a prelude to the Provincial high school outdoor meet in June.”
