Rivals to Clash at Jerome Track Classic High Jump on July 10

Mike Mason Mike Mason has represented Canada for the last 10 years.  He was the World Junior champion way back in 2004 in Grosetto, Italy.  The multiple NAIA champion while a UBC Thunderbird has been to three World Championships and two Olympic Games.  Mike from Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island, was 8th in the 2012 London Olympics, losing the bronze medal on the count back with a jump of 2.29m.

His personal best of 2.31m was set in 2012 with the guidance of his coach, Zbigniew Szelagowicz. Post jumping career, Mason from the Valley Royals Track Club in Abbotsford, BC has an interest in computer graphic design.

At the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic he will face long time rival, Jesse Williams from Eugene, Oregon. A USC graduate from Raleigh, North Carolina, this two time NCAA champion has a personal best of 2.37 set in 2009.  This explosive 6’0” athlete was the World Championship gold medalist in 2011 in Daegu, Korea and represented the USA in Beijing and London.  Jesse is the Harry Jerome Track Classic meet record holder at 2.31m.

Over 300 athletes from 23 nations will compete in the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic featuring the 60th Anniversary of the Miracle Mile presented by Northern Gateway on July 10 at Swangard Stadium.
