Shawn Barber established himself as a podium contender at the Pan American Games and even the World Championships this season. The 21 year old student at the University of Akron set the top outdoor pole vault mark in the world for 2015 at Austin TX Saturday. In doing so he broke his own Canadian record with his 5.90m jump. This equals his Canadian indoor record set on March 13 this winter. Although a dual citizen he chose to follow the footsteps of his father, George Barber who represented Canada in the pole vault. Shawn won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games last summer in Glasgow.
