This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Miracle Mile and the Harry Jerome Track Classic plans to honor the occasion with an invitational mile event that will feature no less than seven men who’ve run well under the four minute barrier. Bannister was first to go under four minutes on May 6, 1954, Landy running 3:58.0 just 46 days later to lower the world record. It was promoted as, “The Race of the Century” but even that didn’t do it justice once it happened. Vancouver Sun photographer, Charlie Warner took the famous photo where Bannister passes Landy.
