Dylan Armstrong and Jessica Zelinka earn National Track League top athlete honours
Ottawa – Athletics Canada is pleased to announce today that Dylan Armstrong of Kamloops, B.C., and Jessica Zelinka of London, Ont., earned 2013 National Track League (NTL) overall series top athlete honours. As a result Armstrong and Zelinka each earned $5,000. Second places, and $2,500 cash prizes, went to Nate Brannen of Cambridge, Ont., and Melissa Bishop of Eganville, Ont.
The male and female top athletes are determined by the average of the best three performances using the IAAF Points Table.
Dylan Armstrong took the top overall male title with an IAAF scoring table average score of 1165.33 points. Nate Brannen was second with an aggregate score of 1120 points. Armstrong finished second in the NTL point standings with 32 points behind fellow Kamloops, B.C., native Justin Rodhe who recorded 38 points in the series.
Brannen took top spot in the Timex 1500-metres with 29 points. With the combination of overall male athlete and a second place in the shot put Armstrong earned a total of $7,500 in NTL prize money while Brannen won $7,000 overall.
Jessica Zelinka finished first in the women’s category with a score of 1152 points while Melissa Bishop was second with 1112.67. In the 100-metre hurdles standings Zelinka tied Angela Whyte of Edmonton, Alta., with 32 points. Whyte got the nod based on the placing in the NTL Final tie-breaker.
Bishop took top spot in the Running Room 800-metres with a score of 40 points. Overall in the series Zelinka earned $7,500 while Bishop took home $7,000 for her efforts.
